Carreg Las, Hempcrete New Build House

Carreg Las, Hempcrete New Build House

Concept through to Technical Design of low carbon private residential house in Pembrokeshire.

Exciting project now on site. This is the practice’s first Hempcrete project. The self build clients gave us carte blanche to design them a house on a wonderful terraced site in the village of Glandwr, (which translate into Clean Water), in Pembrokeshire, West Wales. After getting to know our clients and their brief for a better than zero carbon building we designed a building that sits well on the sloping site. It takes full advantage of the views and orientation. Consequently we have designed a series of courtyard spaces around the plan that will catch the sunlight at different times of the day. The qualities of hempcrete as an ecological building material are second to none. It is a great insulator, fire resistant, zero carbon rated, anti-fungal, hydroscopic- the list goes on. We are thrilled to be the Architect for this pioneering project that involves other great contractors and consultants. It is also being supported by Jewson as a pilot project for them in their use of hempcrete. The well sealed building will be ventilated and heated with a MVHR system and Air Source heat pump.
